GSA FDA HQ

WHITE OAK, MD

LEED Gold and Platinum Certified

Our team gave a careful attention to creative security solutions necessary for a federal facility that fosters a sense of openness without compromising on safety.

The Biodefense Laboratory Complex completes the fourth and largest quadrant of the Food and Drug Administration at the 130-acre White Oak, Maryland Campus. Designed in accordance with the approved 2009 Master Plan, this campus is a collaborative environment for FDA researchers built on the site of the former Naval Ordnance Laboratory. The complex houses state-of-the-art laboratories and offices. The grand Central Atrium creates a multi-function community space for researchers and encourages interaction and collaboration. The project scope also includes a significant expansion of the campus co-generation plant and utility infrastructure.

GSA Region 3

PHILADELPHIA, PA

Our team delivered a high-performance workplace while exceeding Federal guidelines.

The project commenced with a macro programming effort to establish criteria in forming a workplace strategy that explored scenarios to leverage a mobility solution. Following a pilot program, GSA chose to adopt a 100% unassigned and 100% mobility program. The new space typologies resulted in a 37% space reduction and 49% rent reduction. Additional project gains include sustainability strategies that will result in a 30% reduction in water consumption and 41% reduction in power usage. Our team’s recommendation of a robust change management effort provides employees with resources to successfully transition to a mobile environment, enabling them to accomplish their work from anywhere within the Regional Office.

National Geospatial Intelligence Agency

FORT BELVOIR, VA

LEED Gold Certified

Our team successfully consolidated 5 sites under one roof in 48 months.

Jacobs, as a partner in a joint venture, designed new headquarters located on the Fort Belvoir consolidating NGA’s major East Coast Operations. New Campus East was created to enhance mission performance, facilitate both physical and virtual collaboration and promote greater information sharing within the agency and across the US Intelligence Community and Department of Defense.

Achieving the LEED Gold accreditation, the overall design concept was closely coordinated and integrated to identify and support the agency’s culture and mission. NGA’s capability of producing aeronautical and topographic maps, charts and data of the world led to the design team using the concept of Celestial to Terrestrial elements to provide the framework for organizing the facility.

The OUC St. Cloud Operations and Maintenance Center located in St. Cloud, Florida is a 24+ acre net-zero energy campus. Phase 1 of the campus includes an offices, fleet maintenance center, fueling facility, warehouse, employee training areas, fitness facility and an arrivals structure known as the "Energy Pavillion", site improvements and various other site structures. This new campus was designed with a focus on serving the customers, enhancing the surrounding community and promoting employee well-being. The result of this design is a campus that addresses sustainability at a holistic level, prioritizing the health and safety of the occupants, while optimizing the buildings performance and utilizing technology that turns the buildings into power plants.

Using the Integrative design approach, the design team collaborated through multiple sustainability and energy modeling workshops. The results of these efforts can be seen in the highly efficient HVAC systems, lighting design and controls strategies that reduce the overall energy demand of the buildings. Sustainability was not only defined by the building’s performance, but by the occupant health. Designed for a post-pandemic world, the buildings include touch-less features, anti-microbial finishes and HVAC strategies that work together to mitigate the risk of infectious diseases. In addition, the campus design promotes movement through a fitness loop open stairs and active workstations. Jacobs provided architecture, engineering and planning services.
