This $500+ million project required design review, construction, and commissioning. Corning manufactures LCD glass for laptops, TVs, and desktop monitors, and produces large glass substrate, 1.8m square from continuous process (0.7mm thick). The Corning process advantage is glass formed in air resulting in pristine surface.

Corning required approximately a 160-foot tall building and a process layout critical to process flow both horizontally as well as vertically. We built raw material silos on one end, furnaces built under strict Corning supervision and located at top of building, highly-automated robotics to wash/handle final glass substrate. Central utilities included large quantities of chilled water, cooling tower water, steam, fire water, service water, instrument/plant air, nitrogen, LPG/NG, city water, hot water, DI water, 18.1 megaohm ultra pure water, detergent, and wastewater. This project required significant HVAC design.

The R&D facilities at the Factory 1 site are designed to support a variety of products in Beijing Tide (BT) over the next decade. These products are represented by five technology platforms including bio-technology, micro-sphere target preparation, liposome target preparation, oral solid formulation, and transdermal (patch) products. New facilities will significantly support and meet the demand for the development, optimization, and registration of new BT drug products and BT’s patented drug portfolio.

The new design is based on Tide’s commitment to its people, the environment, and its future growth in pharmaceutical research, development, and production. The proposed site organization reflects patterns of movement by people and materials, and a governing concern for safety. The design offers sophistication and environmental enhancement while sympathizing with the existing context.
