This massive project is similar in size to the land area of Kuwait. The client’s goal was for teams to come up with a strategy for developing the site to accommodate 1 million annual visitors by 2035. The Jacobs’ team was inspired by the site’s unprecedented amount of pristine natural resources and put together a plan and presentation inspired by the existing local environment. The more than 70,000 projected residents, 1 million annual visitors and all support assets will be accommodated within 0.06% of the total site area, so that a majority of the site can become the Kingdom’s first three national parks focused on wildlife, volcanos and their lava flows, and heritage assets located on-site.
