King Salman International Airport will redefine the future of aviation, positioning Riyadh as a dynamic global hub that seamlessly integrates innovation, sustainability and world-class passenger experiences. Spanning approximately 57 square kilometers, the ambitious masterplan envisions a cutting-edge aerotropolis featuring six parallel runways, state-of-the-art terminals and a thriving mixed-use development that supports tourism, commerce and economic diversification.

Designed with a commitment to low-carbon operations and renewable energy, the airport will set a new benchmark for sustainability, targeting LEED Platinum certification while harnessing smart technologies to optimize efficiency and enhance user experience. As a critical pillar of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, the project will bolster connectivity, facilitating the movement of up to 100 million passengers annually by the decade’s end.

Denver Intl. Airport

DENVER, CO

In recent years, DEN has outgrown its facilities, which were originally built for 50 million passengers. In 2022, Denver International Airport served 69.2 million passengers. The scope of work incudes DEN expansion of mainline gate capacity on Concourse B and Concourse C to serve domestic and international routes. The project is designed to LEED gold V4.0 standards. The scope of services included program validation, schematic design, design development, construction documents, construction administration and project closeout. Passenger experience and connecting existing and new were key goals. Close coordination with airlines, concessionaires, airport operations, ground transportation, the FAA and City and County of Denver are critical to the success of this project.

Innovations: Naturally Lit Restrooms; Flexible Holdroom Seating; Optimized Boarding Queue Layout.

Programmatic Elements: 16 New Narrow Body Gates; 4 Relocated Narrow Body Gates; Regional Ground-load; Holdroom; 2 Concession Subcores; Holdrooms; Office Space for SWA; Airline Support Spaces.


Montrose Regional Airport

MONTROSE, CO

The focus of this project was to expand the baggage capacity of the airport, ultimately allowing gates and holdrooms to be expanded and accommodate more passengers. There is an expansion on both the north side and south side of the existing terminal that were designed to facilitate future expansions. The north expansion is a two story addition, with the baggage claim and airport admin on the lower level and 2 new gates, holdrooms and a bar concession on the second level. The south addition expands the ticket hall, adding check-in counters, airline ticket offices and expanded outbound baggage capacity.

Conceptually, the project responded to the Colorado mountain setting of the site and captured the Après-ski, mountain lodge feel of the area. Many passengers who travel through the airport are on vacation and the architecture is the front door and introduction to the region.


St. Louis Lambert Intl. Airport Airfield Maintenance Facility

ST. LOUIS, MO

The City of Saint Louis, as the owner of St. Louis Lambert International Airport, is embarking on an ambitious multi-phased expansion project that will ultimately result in a new consolidated terminal. This significant development is part of the airport’s comprehensive masterplan, which aims to modernize and enhance its infrastructure to better serve passengers and operations.

As a preparatory step, the airfield operations and maintenance departments, currently scattered across nine pre-engineered buildings that are over 70 years old, need to be relocated. These aging structures are prone to flooding and are nearing the end of their useful life. The relocation will consolidate these departments into a newly designed campus, allowing for the demolition of the existing buildings. This demolition is crucial as it will make way for additional preparatory projects, including the construction of the West Deicing Pad (WDP) and the Central Utility Plant (CUP).

Jacobs, in collaboration with our subconsultant teams who are meeting Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Women Business Enterprise (WBE) participation goals, has designed state-of-the-art facilities for the personnel, logistics and the maintenance and storage of their service vehicles – importantly, including the fleet of runway snow removal equipment. Initially occupying 16 acres, the new maintenance and operations campus will now expand to encompass 35 acres. This expanded campus will consist of two buildings, consolidating all airfield maintenance operations into approximately 285,000 square feet.

The main building will be the hub of administrative functions, featuring office suites and essential personnel support amenities such as locker rooms, training facilities, conference rooms, breakrooms and kitchens. This building will also include light and heavy-duty vehicle repair bays adjacent to the vehicle parts storage area. A significant component of the program is materials management, which will be housed within this building to facilitate central stores warehousing, delivery and distribution across the entire airport. Landscaping operations will be accommodated in dedicated shop environments, with exterior areas designated for delivery, plant material growth and maintenance.

The second building will serve as a garage for housing service vehicles, ensuring longevity for the equipment currently stored outdoors. It will be equipped with two wash bays and flanked by utility rooms and various shops, including welding, painting and woodworking. Additional ancillary program areas will include a fuel island and canopy, salt and sand storage facilities and a control booth to monitor access between the land and secure airside areas.

The entire project is scheduled to be completed over a two-year construction timeline, with an anticipated completion date in the spring of 2026. This new facility will significantly enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the airport’s airfield maintenance operations, ensuring that St. Louis Lambert International Airport remains a vital and well-maintained transportation hub.


Buffalo Niagara Intl. Airport

BUFFALO, NY

The original goal of this project was to expand the existing baggage claim hall and provide a circulation corridor from the existing Federal Inspection Services (FIS) facility to the main terminal building. The scope has since been expanded to include providing exit paths from the concourse to the baggage claim in order to remedy existing circulation path cross traffic in the center portion of the building.

On the lower level, the expansion of the baggage claim hall drives the relocation of the bag service offices, public restrooms, concessions storage and loading dock. The new interior corridor from FIS to the main terminal combines with an exit from the concourse. It will also provide additional curbside pickup. On the upper level, the new exit corridor from the concourse drives the relocation of the airport administration offices. A large new meet-and-greet space along with public restrooms and concessions is created as a result of the new exit.

Innovations: Solar wall integrated into exterior facade; Frit and high-end glazing added to east elevation.

Programmatic Elements: Expanded baggage claim; Increased circulation from existing Customs and Border Patrol to the main terminal building; New meet-and-greet location with new exit and additional curbside pickup; Concessions and restrooms.
